I had a light bulb go off today while practicing handstands. My best ones are when I "settle into" them, or in other words when I let my shoulders relax a bit and settle into my structure. It makes perfect sense. It would be hard to keep your balance if you stood around with all the muscles around your hips in a state of permanent contraction... All that tension would create a stiff structure rather than the naturally resilient structure represented so well by the tensegrity model.
