If you REALLY can't afford the real thing...
Here is a little tutorial for a pretty decent stop-gap tool. I don't recommend it, but as far as homemade clubs go this one looks to be one of the safer and more effective ones around. But please note that as soon as you get your hands on a genuine Clubbell® you will be amazed at the quality difference. I've heard this time and again in working with students who have gone from their own homemade clubs to the real thing...
